Mikkel Kongsfelt

My Story

Scientist turned entrepreneur. A decade of building companies from scientific breakthroughs — and finding 10,000 ways that don’t work along the way.

The Beginning — Science and Curiosity

Born and raised in Jutland. Studied nanoscience at Aarhus University — BSc followed by a PhD in surface chemistry and graphene. Published in peer-reviewed journals. Filed patents. But always had an itch for building things — ran a software company (Kongsfelt IN-Media) since 2000, doing web development and SEO alongside studies. Led volunteers at Danmarks Smukkeste Festival for five years.

The Leap — RadiSurf

In 2015, left a Post Doc position to commercialise polymer brush technology — a nano-Velcro that makes incompatible materials bond. Co-founded RadiSurf with three university supervisors. Grew it from a one-person spin-out to a multi-team company with 30+ international B2B clients, a global presence, and multiple competitive grants including the EIC Accelerator (€1.4M — one of only 119 selected from 2,130 applicants).

Filed six patents. Raised from Danish soft funding, EIC EU funding, and early-stage VCs. In 2021, navigated a successful acquisition by KCK Group — a major international private equity fund — bringing significant new capital and global ambitions to the company.

The Pivot — What Comes After an Exit

After nearly nine years at RadiSurf, transitioned to applying the accumulated playbook across multiple ventures. Founded 10000 WAYS ApS as a consulting platform. Co-founded Decameal (sustainable protein from invasive crabs). Started angel investing through MKInvest ApS. Took on board roles. Joined the Innovation Fund Denmark InnoBooster panel. Completed board education at Aarhus BSS. Enrolled in executive education at Harvard Business School (Pasteur Program: From Project to Competitive Advantage).

The Philosophy

The Edison quote isn’t just a name — it’s a working philosophy. Most of what you try in a startup won’t work. The value is in the trying, the learning, and the stubborn refusal to stop iterating.

Ecosystem Roles

Innovation Fund Denmark — Member of InnoBooster evaluation panel (since 2025)
Aarhus University iNANO — Member of the Employer Panel (since 2025)
